TechPlace is now open

Burlington, On, June 25, 2017 – TECHPLACE IS NOW OPEN

On June 22, TechPlace, Burlington’s new innovation centre was declared open at a grand opening event that welcomed nearly 200 people through the doors. An open-house format, the event offered welcoming remarks from Mayor Rick Goldring and Honourable MPP Eleanor McMahon, and an announcement from BEDC Executive Director Frank McKeown that Claire Green has accepted the role of managing the new facility. Guests were invited to mingle around the space, network and learn more about how TechPlace will support the start-up and growth or new and growing innovative, technology-driven companies.

“TechPlace represents a significant opportunity for Burlington to strengthen the resources available, renew the entrepreneurial energy that exists within our city and develop Burlington as a great place to not only start, but to grow a business.” Said Mayor Rick Goldring at the inaugural event “This space allows us to leverage the contributions and expertise of our partners, all coming together at TechPlace”.

The 8,600 square foot space is home to Haltech, Halton’s Regional Innovation Centre, and Angel One Investor Network, one of Canada’s most active Angel groups. The City of Burlington and the Halton Region Small Business Centre will also have a presence in the space. With the support of these co-location partners alongside public and private sectors partners, TechPlace will provide access to space, programming, mentorship, networking and resources to new and growing technology companies.

“The vision for TechPlace revolves around the creation of energy between people and organizations; energy that drives economic growth through investment, talent, and collaboration,” said Claire Green, Manager at TechPlace. “When we were developing the strategy behind TechPlace, we saw the incredible things that can happen when you bring these pieces together under one roof. So that is what we are doing, and we will reach beyond the borders of Burlington to build momentum, and work towards attracting great companies to start and grow in Burlington.”

Green Concluded her remarks by announcing that servicePath, a technology company moving into Canada, will be the first company to occupy one of TechPlace’s five launch pad offices when they establish their Canadian headquarters there next month.
