Burlington Economic Development’s Statement Regarding Cogeco

Burlington, Ont. – September 18, 2020 – Members of our business community, as well as partners and stakeholders may have heard that Altice USA Inc., a New York cable company, has made an offer to purchase Cogeco and subsequently sell its Canadian assets to Rogers Communications Inc.

Earlier this week, our Mayor issued a statement regarding the offer, and we would like to echo her statement as well as show our support for Cogeco and the Audet family.

Cogeco’s Ontario headquarters has been located in Burlington for more than 30 years, and they are a valued contributor to our local economy. Not only are they amongst our top five employers with more than 1,000 jobs across 100,000 square feet of office and retail, but they offer premium employment opportunities for local talent, and are active and engaged members of the business community.

At Burlington Economic Development, we are constantly striving to attract and retain employers that offer opportunities for employees to live and work in Burlington. Cogeco is a prime example of one of these employers, and we are very proud to have them here in our community.

At nearly every business event in Burlington, you can count on Cogeco to be there, supporting through either donations or company participation. They have been keen supporters of Burlington Economic Development initiatives over the years, and also showed community leadership during the Joseph Brant Hospital redevelopment. Our businesses count on Cogeco for the valuable community programming it provides through YourTV and its broadcasts of important events like Let’s Talk Exports, the Burlington Chamber of Commerce’s Business Awards Gala, and the Mayor’s annual State of the City address.

Cogeco provides critical infrastructure to our business community through their internet, video and telephony services. In fact, Burlington hosts the infrastructure that drives services to customers across the province. We do not take this for granted. We also know that Cogeco is continually investing in its network and infrastructure to meet the growing needs of our community. After all, this is their home too.

Both Cogeco and the Audet family have our full support in ensuring Cogeco remains a valued member of our community.

Sincerely,

Anita Cassidy, Executive Director

Randall Smallbone, Chair
