Burlington Welcomes Turkish Electrical Trade Delegation

Burlington, ON September 23, 2019 – Burlington Welcomes Turkish Electrical Trade Delegation

On Tuesday September 17th, Burlington Economic Development and the City of Burlington welcomed the Turkey Electrical Trade Delegation. This delegation comes only a few months after the June 2019 Memorandum of Understanding establishing a Joint Economic and Trade Committee (JETCO) between Canadian and Turkish officials to expand bilateral trade and investment opportunities. The delegation was sponsored by the Turkish Embassy and the Turkish Ministry of Trade and was attended by the Turkish Electrical Technology Association. This association represents over 4,000 Turkish electrical companies.

The Delegation kicked off with a tour of Gerrie Electric where CEO Elaine Gerrie presented on the Burlington business advantage. Gerrie highlighted the advantageous location, access to top talent and proximity to major markets. Mayor Marianne Meed Ward brought greetings to the delegation, saying, “The City of Burlington is proud that Gerrie Electric has called our community home for over 50 years, as a leader in their field, their insights into Burlington help promote our City as a destination for business expansion and partnerships.” She continued, “Burlington is open for business and welcoming the Turkish Electrical Trade Delegation helps us promote our community as a destination for global employers.” Mayor Meed Ward attended the delegation along with Red Tape Red Carpet Co-Chair and Ward 1 City Councillor, Kelvin Galbraith.

Following the visit to Gerrie Electric, the delegation visited TechPlace to learn more about its Soft Landing Program which would provide eligible companies with office space and access to tools and services to help launch their Canadian operations. “We are thrilled to welcome the Turkish Electrical Technology Association to Burlington,” said Burlington Economic Development Acting Executive Director, Anita Cassidy. “We’re looking forward to showing them the advantages of Burlington for their business and the growth opportunities in using Burlington to enter the North American market. Burlington is ready to support them in investing in Canada through value-added tools like our Soft Landing Program at TechPlace.”

Burlington Economic Development is continuing to work with Turkish partners to service a number of potential new businesses following the delegation.
